Just Days Away, So Cal Readers!

Be sure to join us this Tuesday for the first meeting of our book club, So Cal Readers, lead by the amazing book blogger and chapter Vice-president,  Jennifer Holmes.

September’s book of the month is “The Woman in Red” by Diana Giovinazzo.

Each month we will be reading a book by a local author and spotlighting their favorite indie bookstore.

Remember, So Cal Readers is only open to current WNBA-LA members, so join if you haven’t yet, and get ready to talk books!

For more info on the event, please visit our WNBA-LA facebook page.

International Literacy Day

Today, September 8th, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will be once again working to increase literacy awareness by hosting the 53rd Annual International Literacy Day.

This year’s focus is on ‘Literacy and Multilingualism’ by recognizing and addressing how multilingualism impacts literacy.  This year’s event will be held in Paris, but don’t worry, there are ways to participate no matter where you are.

Some ideas for promoting literacy:

      1.  Volunteer with a community agency that helps promote literacy.
      2. Say thank you to a teacher in your life.
      3. Read a book to a child.
      4. Visit your local library.
      5. Donate a few dollars to a local literacy group.
